connect groups

what is a connect group?

Connect Groups exist as the primary space at Steel City Church for people to explore, experience, and enact the ways of Jesus in community.

These co-ed communities of 8-15 people gather weekly in the homes of church members around the city to catch up, talk about life, and have meaningful discussions revolving around Jesus and the Bible. Throughout the year, there are multiple times where Connect Groups get together to have some fun or have a meal together. Anyone who's anywhere on their faith journey is invited to take the next step in getting more connected with Steel City by joining a Connect Group.

come as you are

Come as you are to a Connect Group with your questions, thoughts, life experiences, and faith background. No matter what life stage you're in - college student, young professional, parent, retiree - Connect Groups are for you. No matter where you are on your faith journey - a curious explorer, new believer in Jesus, a long-time follower of Jesus, or just someone who's spiritually stuck in a rut - Connect Groups are for you.

Deep down, none of us wants to be another face in the crowd or just a number on a Sunday. We crave to be increasingly known and loved by those around us. Tim Keller sums it up like this: "To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.”

PRACTICE real-world faith

When we find ourselves in a diverse community it can be unfamiliar, awkward, and uncomfortable. Not everyone will hold to the same interpretations of the Bible. People will have different life experiences and political leanings (gasp!).  This is no different from the community Jesus surrounded Himself with. The men and women Jesus kept company with were very different from one another.  Jesus told them to "Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples if you love one another." This was a command to put faith into real-world practice, and it could only happen in a community!
